Home-made Pandan Extract

Ever since I've started really loving baking, I abhor the 'cheating' method for baking and cooking.
I've been wanting to bake a Pandan Chiffon Cake for sometime but time doesn't really permit so.
Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped me from making Home-made Pandan Extract!
This took me less than 30 mins to prepared and it yield half a bottle of extract.

Home-made Pandan Extract Recipe:
Ingredients:

A packet of Pandan Leaves (About 35 pcs)
I got mine from Sheng Shiong (:
1 glass of water

Steps:

The big packet of pandan leaves!
Peel the leaves from the base. Rid the old and dried leaves.
I did my rinsing later cos' long leaves are tough to wash. XD

Cut the pointed tip of the leaf as it'll make your hands itch. Cut away the bottom 'whitish' part. Cut the rest of the leaf with a pair of scissors into thin strips. Check out what I rid! XD

The leaves! Cut is as small and thin as you can so as not to wear out your blender/food processor blades.

I rinsed it twice.

Plonk half of the leaves into the blender and add half a glass of water. I used a MacDonald Coca-Cola glass as a gauge. Blend for 2 - 3 minutes till it's a pulpy mash.

Check out the rich colour!

Add half of the remaining leaves into the blender. Blend more!
Then add the rest of the leaves into the blender and blend!

The pulpy mix!

Sieve it!

The pulp left.

Dump the pulp into the blender again and add 3 - 5 tbsp of water.
Blend again!

Sieve the mixture again.

After all's completed, sieve the mixture twice again before bottling it up!

I used a pasta sauce bottle (:

Beautifully green Pandan Juice ready for my Pandan Chiffon Cake! (:
This can be stored for up to 2 weeks or till' the mixture starts to smell like rotten leaves.

Guess I shall bake my chiffon cake tonight on top of the Rainbow Cake that I'm gonna help my sister bake! (:

I'd love to see the bakes or stuff you've cooked using the blog's recipe! Do share photos of stuff you've baked or cooked using the blog's recipe with me either via FB message to http://facebook.com/limcynthia OR http://facebook.com/thebakingbiatch OR via email at cynthia.lim.hl@gmail.com! 1. You can dry the pulp and fill into small bags (those that are used for tea eaves). Leave it in cabinets to prevent cockroaches.

    1. Hello,

sorry for missing on your comment. After 2-3 weeks it'll be pretty dry.. don't think it's good for extracting anymore.

  4. Is there anything we can add into the extract to prolong the life span?
